LILY

As a rescue, we often get requests for owner surrenders and we do everything in our power to either bring the horse under our umbrella, whether it is at our barn, at a foster or sometimes even helping the owner find a good home outside our rescue. It is the best way to help a horse, to be able to give them shelter, food and basic care without them having to be bounced around at an auction or even from home to home. Usually a horse in this situation does not end up at an experienced home, they usually end up at a well intentioned person who just wants to save a horse but has no idea how. These situations usually end up in another move for the horse in a year or so (when that person realizes they too are in over their heads) and the cycle spirals downhill. In many situations, the horse is in need of special care (whether that is due to health or behavior) and that is sometimes why the owner decides the horse is too much for them. Sometimes it becomes too difficult to carry water in freezing temperatures, sometimes the hay runs out and its too expensive this time of year, sometimes the owners simply did not realize taking care of a horse is ALOT of work. It isnt as much fun when the weather is like it has been around here and the animals always suffer when people get lazy. Sometimes owners surrender because they have lost their job or have become old or sick. Sometimes owners die and the family needs to find homes for their animals. There are so many reasons for an owner surrender and here at the rescue we do not want to make anyone feel bad about surrendering because if you need to give your horse up then the reason doesnt matter, the animal matters and the person surrendering needs to know they are doing the best for that animal. So with all that said, I know you all want to know Lilys story but for now you have to know her story started yesterday, when she arrived with us. Her past doesnt matter. We can tell you what we know about her: seldom have i seen a pony that doesnt have some sort of "pony attitude" (usually due to ignorant people) BUT Lily has none! She is the sweetest little angel. Loving attention, picking up all of her feet and allowing us to clean up a small wound on her leg without even a halter on, loving her soft muzzle snorting through the soaked alfalfa cubes last night, her amazing blue eyes, her peeking at the donkeys through the stall boards, her curiosity when Tommy came into his adjacent stall - she could not have been more fun. Lily has an amazing future and it will be so much fun to see her find her own little person that will love her forever. If you would like to meet Lily, and the rest of the herd, pop us a message and we can set a time up. She will be going out with the donkeys today and we will see who she pals up with. My guess is Blossom since Tilly is a bit of a teenager a wants to play and Blossom is more of a mother and just wants to hang out in the sunshine. I will try to get more pictures today
Make way for Lily. This little pint sized pony has a heart the size of Tommys!

We had Lily assessed (heaves/asthma* whatever you want to call it) so we have another cube eater. She seems pretty happy about it and there is less coughing although her breathing is still labored.
